Normalized Earnings

Earnings restated to a typical, repeatable year after add-backs, missing costs, and non-recurring items.

Normalized earnings (or normalized EBITDA/SDE) try to show what the business would earn in a normal year under ordinary ownership. Normalization may add back true one-time costs and subtract missing costs such as a market manager wage or market rent. The goal is comparability, not a higher marketing number. Quality-of-earnings work tests whether the normalized figure is supportable.
