Absentee Owner

An owner who does not work in the business day to day and relies on a manager or team to operate.

Absentee ownership is a marketing claim that the business already runs without the seller on site. Buyers should verify manager tenure, pay, systems, and whether the seller still handles vendors, scheduling, or quality control. True absentee operations usually show a fully burdened manager wage in the earnings. “Absentee” is not the same as passive real estate; licenses and labor still need an accountable operator.
